Blood and Pudding

It was a privilege to take part in the event Lilith Burning earlier this year with the amazing New York-based writer, artist and model Katelan V Foisy. Her new book, Blood and Pudding, is now out, published by Knickerbocker Circus Press. You can order it for $15 from the Knickerbocker Circus website.

Blood and Pudding is a story of two psychoneurotic teenage cousins and their troubled relationship. Holly was manic-depressive, hauntingly beautiful, and addicted to heroin. Kat was a young soon-to-be bride and pill junky. They documented their lives furiously and lived recklessly. They had one mission: To live as much as they could in the shortest amount of time. With a double snort of crushed Xanax the journey began.
Blood and Pudding is a scrapbook of two girls dealing with depression, high school, drug addiction, first loves, and untimely death.Blood and Pudding is a celebration of life and all that means. It deals with tragedy and fragility, using little more than the words of Katelan and her teenage best friend Holly, which Katelan obsessively recorded on their adventures. One of THE great accounts of teenage life. Best release of 2010 so far.Katelan has created a playlist to go with the book on her blog. It’s got Patti Smith, The Pixies, andf How Soon is Now, so it kind of makes a great experience even better.

It’s an amazing read. The art is Katelan’s as well. She is an extraordinary talent, and an extraordinary person.
