Sabina England

(We have a Facebook page now – do come and “like” us and say hi)

Being able to include work from Sabina England in this exhibition is a genuine honour. You can see her pieces here and here. She was, of course, shortlisted for the Christopher Al-Aswad Prize.

Since the original post we did, Wedding Night has entered post-production. Sabina is looking to raise a further $2,000 towards post-production costs. To see the teaser trailer and to donate, visit here.

Sabina England is a deaf punk woman, and as each of those things she is an outstanding role model. But to reduce her to any or even all of those things would be a travesty. She is one of the most talented novelists, filmmakers and playwrights I have ever encountered. AND she is a tireless political campaigner (her video protesting against the killing of a partially deaf Native American has received more than 40,000 hits in under a week).

Sabina is the author of the forthcoming zine novel Brown Trash, an extraordinary story about a Muslim girl growing up in small-town America. Her play, How the Rapist was Born, was performed at the Tristan Bates Theatre last year, and she has her own incredible YouTube Channel, the hilarious Velma Sabina Show, for which she writes, directs, and plays all the parts. Below you can view The Punk and the Queen

and Allah Save the Punk

Her first film. Wedding night, is now in post-production and will be released later this year.

Go and like her on Facebook. Get your copy of Brown Trash the moment it’s out. And tell everyone you know to follow the career of this marvellous talent and wonderful person.
